Sundown Salute

This year's Fourth of July had the perfect combination of cooler weather which coincided with the popular Sundown Salute, the largest free Independence Day celebration in the state of Kansas. This year's festivities kicked off with the annual hamburger feed hosted by the Junction City Fire Department and Clarabel's Dance Studio.
On Thursday, July 4, Junction City celebrated Independence Day with the Coors Freedom 5K and 10K run, the Sundown Salute parade and a Veteran's ceremony that followed.
This year's parade theme was "A Star Spangled Celebration" which had over 70 entries! Pictured below is Major General Paul E. Funk, II and Command Sargent Major Charles V. Sasser who led a group of 100 "Big Red One" soldiers down Sixth St.

Juggling, a mobile aquarium , bicycle stunt show and numerous bands, which included the Little River Band, created another fun and memorable Fourth of July at Heritage Park!
